The Central Bank of Cyprus announces the opening of the exhibition “From the £ to the €”.

The exhibition “From the £ to the €” has been organised by the Central Bank of Cyprus. It covers the history of money in Cyprus from the establishment of the Republic in 1960, to the introduction of the euro, targeted for 1 January 2008. The Central Bank of Cyprus has been playing a major role in the recent monetary history of Cyprus. From its establishment in June 1963, the Central Bank became the issuing authority of the country having the exclusive right and responsibility for the issue of the island’s currency.
The exhibition shows the currency notes and coins of Cyprus that have been put into circulation since the establishment of the Cyprus Republic as well as a representative series of coins that the Central Bank has issued for collectors. The designs to be depicted on the national side of Cyprus’s euro coins are also on display.
