Competition by the European Union for the selection of a design for a commemorative coin of nominal amount of €2 that will be issued in 2015 on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the European Union Flag

The Central Bank of Cyprus announces the launching by the European Commission of a competition for the selection of a design for a commemorative coin of nominal amount €2 that will be issued in 2015 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the European Union flag. 

Entries to the competition must be of a professional standard and be submitted in a closed envelope with indication "COMPETITION ENTRY - COMMEMORATIVE COIN FOR THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION FLAG". The entry deadline will be Friday 20 March 2015 at 11:00 a.m..

Enclosed in the entry envelope, must be a separate closed envelope with indication of the participant's details (name, address and telephone number) containing the design(s) submitted. The entry envelope can be submitted either by post to the address of the Central Bank of Cyprus, 80 Kennedy Avenue, 1076 Nicosia or P.O Box 25529, 1395 Nicosia or by hand at the Cental Bank of Cyprus, Cash Section. Entries by post should be sent in time so that they reach the Central Bank within the stated deadline.

Entries and related designs must comply with the terms of the competition and coin specifications set out in "Attachment 1 - Specifications". The proposed design must not bear the designer's initials. Furthermore, participants will have to complete a signed declaration on Copyright, as per "Attachment 2 - Declaration", which must be inserted in the entry envelope.

The pre-selection of the best five designs will be made within the current month by a jury composed of two designers not having submitted designs for the competition, the chair of the sub-committee of the Economic and Financial Committee of the European Union responsible for euro coins and representatives from the Economic and Financial Affairs Directorate of the European Commission. The final design will be selected by the European Union citizens and residents in May, when they will be invited to vote via a special web page set up for this purpose by the European Commission.

It is planned that the prize for the winning design will be a two-person city trip to Milan with cultural program.
