Reactivating of the Central Information Registry

Monday, 2 September 2013

The Central Information Registry (CIR) for issuers of dishonoured cheques is reopening as of today, after a prolonged period of interruption.

To facilitate this process, the CIR will be updated gradually during the current week until 6 September.

This has been deemed necessary in order to implement the relevant directives for its reactivation, with temporarily modified instructions, which take into account the current economic situation and sensitivities of the business community as a whole.

Specifically, the differentiated procedure is as follows:

- Take into account the problems arising from the implementation of the restrictive measures as well as the provisions of the “Enforcement of Temporary Measures on Transactions Law”.

- Recognise the problems arising from the resolution measures and aim at the transparent, fair and equitable treatment of persons which would then be included in the CIR solely due to the resolution measures.

- Simplifying the process of settlement of dishonoured cheques and removal from the CIR.
