The Chairperson of the European Banking Authority (EBA), Mr. José Manuel Campa, concluded a very productive working visit to Cyprus.

Mr. Campa, who was in Cyprus on 3-4 July 2023 following an invitation from the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Mr. Constantinos Herodotou, had meetings with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus (’CBC’) and CBC staff. Mr. Campa also participated in an event organised by the CBC titled "How can Banks and Fintechs co-exist?" The event was attended by governmental officials, executives from banks, payment institutions, electronic money institutions and the Media.

The Chairperson of the European Banking Authority said: “I was delighted to take part in the high-level conference organised by the Central Bank of Cyprus and to share my insights on how the financial sector is going through an important transformation through the use of technology. This is a crucial topic for all banks across the EU and especially for the Cypriot banks, who have gone through a significant transformation since the Great Financial crisis. It has been a privilege to exchange views with the authorities and interact with so many representatives from the financial community and I look forward to our continued dialogue on regulatory and supervisory issues”.

Governor Herodotou said, "We are extremely honored to have hosted the esteemed Chairperson of the European Banking Authority (EBA) in Cyprus. We sincerely thank Mr. Campa for his valuable insights and engaging discussions with economy stakeholders throughout his stay. The exchange of knowledge and expertise has been invaluable, and we are confident that it will contribute to the continuous improvement of our financial system. Cyprus remains fully committed to upholding high regulatory standards in line with the Guidelines issued by the EBA. By collaborating closely with the EBA, we are confident that we can overcome current challenges and emerge stronger. Once again, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Campa for his visit and the fruitful discussions held. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with the EBA."
