The Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Panicos Demetriades, is travelling to Washington D.C. in order to participate in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which will begin today and will last until 13 October. Mr Demetriades will also participate in the meeting of the Central Bank Governors of those countries which are members of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington D.C.
The discussions in the Annual Meetings of the two international organisations will focus on current issues of concern, such as the following: the global economic crisis, with emphasis on the euro area crisis; fiscal risks; the prospects and challenges for the recovery of financial stability; developments in international markets; debt restructuring and experiences of the recent past; and other related issues.
On the sidelines of these meetings, Mr Demetriades will also meet with colleagues from other countries, as well as with officials of the International Monetary Fund.
