The profitability of the banking sector has declined in the first six months of 2025 by €25 mn from €603 mn in June 2024 to €578 mn in June 2025. This decrease is primarily driven by a reduction in net interest income.

Total assets within the banking sector have risen in the second quarter of 2025 by €950 mn or 1,4%, from €66.026 mn in March 2025 to €66.976 mn in June 2025. This growth is primarily driven by an increase in loans and advances.

The Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of the banking sector has improved in the second quarter of 2025 by 0,4 percentage points, rising from 25,9% in March 2025 to 26,3% in June 2025.

This increase is primarily due to an increase of the Common Equity Tier 1 Capital which has outweighed the increase of total risk exposure amount.
