The profitability of the banking sector has declined for the first quarter of 2025 by €82 mn from €346 mn in March 2024 to €264 mn in March 2025. This decrease is primarily driven by a reduction in net interest income.

The Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of the banking sector has improved in the first quarter of 2025 by 1,3 percentage points, rising from 24,7% in December 2024 to 26,0% in March 2025. This increase is primarily due to a reduction of total risk exposure amount, which has outweighed the slight decrease of the Common Equity Tier 1 Capital.
