Visit to Cyprus by Mr Jeroen Kremers, Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund

Mr Jeroen Κremers, an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund and Cyprus’s representative on the Fund’s Executive Board, will be in Cyprus on 9 and 10 January, 2006. Mr Kremers will hold meetings with the Minister of Finance, Mr M. Sarris, the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Mr Chr. Christodoulou, the President of the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, Mr A. Chrysostomou, senior officers of the Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, as well as leading figures and representatives of the financial sector, employers organizations and trade unions. Mr Kremers’s first meeting will be with the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Mr Chr. Christodoulou. It is expected that the discussions with the Governor will cover topics related to the Cyprus economy and Cyprus’s relations with the IMF. Special emphasis is expected to be given to monetary and exchange rate issues, particularly the impact of ERM II membership on the economy and the island’s path towards adoption of the euro.
