Monetary Financial Institutions (MFIs) Deposits and Loans Statistics

The Central Bank of Cyprus has today released the MFIs deposits and loans statistics for the reference month of December 2023, which are included in the January 2024 edition of Monetary and Financial Statistics.

Total deposits in December 2023 recorded a net increase1 of €346,0 million, compared with a net increase of €91,7 million in November 2023. The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 0,4%, compared with 0,9% in November 2023. The outstanding amount of total deposits reached €52,2 billion in December 2023.

Deposits of Cyprus residents exhibited an increase of €388,0 million. More analytically, households’ deposits increased by €461,0 million, while deposits of non-financial corporations recorded a decrease of €252,0 million. Deposits of the remaining domestic sectors2 exhibited a total increase of €179,0 million.

Total loans in December 2023 recorded a net increase of €284,2 million, compared with a net increase of €15,0 million in November 2023. The annual growth rate of total loans stood at 0,7%, compared with -0,2% in November 2023. The outstanding amount of total loans reached €24,8 billion in December 2023.

Loans to Cyprus residents exhibited an increase of €132,9 million. More analytically, loans to households increased by €99,0 million, while loans to domestic non-financial corporations recorded an increase of €54,5 million. Loans to the remaining domestic sectors2 exhibited a total decrease of €20,6 million.
