The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) invites citizens to participate in the European Central Bank’s (ECB) online survey on the next series of euro banknotes.
The ECB has unveiled the ten design proposals shortlisted through an EU-wide contest which attracted more than 1,200 graphic designers. The proposals are based on two themes: “European culture” and “Rivers and birds”.
People across Europe can view the proposals and express their preferences through the online survey, which will remain open until 21 September 2026. In parallel, an independent research company will conduct a similar survey among a representative sample of euro area citizens.
The ECB’s Governing Council is expected to select the final design proposal towards the end of the year, taking into account, among other factors, the results of both surveys, the evaluation of the Design Contest Jury and the technical assessment.
This is the first complete redesign of euro banknotes since their introduction in 2002. The new banknotes will incorporate enhanced security and accessibility features, while efforts will also be made to reduce their environmental footprint. Banknotes from the previous series will retain their value and continue to circulate alongside the new series.
The CBC encourages citizens to participate and contribute their views to shaping the future appearance of Europe’s common currency.
