The Central Bank of Cyprus has today released the MFIs deposits and loans statistics for the reference month of April 2018, which are included in the May 2018 edition of Monetary and Financial Statistics. The data for the reference month of December 2017 have been revised, since most of the audited financial statements of the MFIs are now available. The data for months January, February and March 2018 were, therefore, revised accordingly.
Total deposits in April 2018 recorded a net increase of €2,4 billion, compared with a net decrease of €642,9 million in March 2018. The above increase of deposits is mainly explained by the deposit of an amount of €2,5 billion by the Cyprus Government, with the Cyprus Cooperative Bank in April 2018. The annual growth rate reached 4,5%, compared with -0,8% in March 2018. The outstanding amount of deposits reached €50,5 billion in April 2018.
Total loans in April 2018 exhibited a net decrease of €100,0 million, compared with a net decrease of €155,7 million in March 2018. The annual growth rate stood at -2,0%, remaining unchanged compared with March 2018. The outstanding amount of total loans reached €48,6 billion in April 2018.
